Gene Alan Harmych Sr., 57, Avid Golfer

Gene Alan Harmych, Sr., 57 years of age, formerly of South Amherst, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2006 at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born June 27, 1948 in Lorain. He was raised in Amherst and graduated from Marion L. Steel High School in the class of 1966. Hew as a resident of South Amherst from 1973 to 1998 and has been a resident of Lorain for the last eight years.

He was employed as a plumber with the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union #42 for thirty-five years working at Lucas Plumbing and Amherst Hardware. He most recently was employed as a property manger for United Property Management for eight years. Prior to his employment as a plumber, he worked at U.S. Steel in Lorain and as a young man, he worked at Hastee Tastee. He was an avid golfer and an Ohio State University fan, and enjoyed bowling and playing pool.

Survivors include his son Gene A. Harmych, Jr. of Amherst; his daughter Beth Korach of Lorain; three grandchildren; his brothers Michael, Ronald and David Harmych, all of Amherst, Richard Harmych of Avon, and Larry Harmych of Vermilion; his sister Shelley Harmych of Amherst; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Michael, in 1987, and Justine (nee: Dolyk) Harmych, in 1998.

Friends may call Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. from funeral home. The Rev. N. James Greenawalt, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
