Paul J. Ganobcik, 90, Retired Central Trust Assistant Vice President
Paul J. Ganobcik, age 90, of Lorain, died Tuesday March 14, 2006 at the Elyria United Methodist Village following an illness of several months.Mr. Ganobcik was born in Lorain on December 10, 1915 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He was a decorated World War II U.S. Army veteran who served as a Master Sergeant attached to a military supply unit in the Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of two Bronze Stars as well as the World War II Victory Medal
Mr. Ganobcik was employed as an Assistant Vice President for the Central Trust Bank of Lorain. He retired in 1983 following thirty-two years of service with the financial institution.
Paul was an active parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council # 637, as well as a member and past President of the Central Businessman’s Association of Lorain. He had also been a member of the Lorain Jaycees.
He previously served as the Treasurer of the Lorain Republican Party; he also enjoyed volunteering his time and energy at Lorain Goodwill Industries as well as at the former Saint Joseph Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years Mary (nee Cucuro), daughters Mary Kay Hardwick of Alameda, California, Paula J. Mach of Saint Charles, Illinois, and his grandson Conor Mach. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Katherine (nee Fulurcak) Ganobcik, by a brother John, and by his sister Mary Hudacek.
Friends are invited to gather Saturday, March 18, 2006, from 10:30 a.m. until time of memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2428 Elyria Avenue Lorain. The Reverend David A. Novak, pastor of the church will officiate. In compliance with his personal wishes, Mr. Ganobcik’s body was donated to the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.
