Lee William Allsop, 87, Enjoyed Golfing & Fishing

He was born October 11, 1918 in South Amherst where he lived most of his life. He was a 1936 graduate of South Amherst High School and a member of school’s 1935-1936 State Champion Basketball Team.

He served in the US Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was employed at the Colson Company in Elyria and later at the Lorain Plant of Ford Motor Corp. for twenty-five years, retiring in 1982 as a millwright. As a young man, he played county baseball and softball. He was a member of the South Amherst American Legion Post #197. He was also a member of the South Amherst First United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling.

Survivors include his sons Kenneth Allsop of Tamarac, Florida, Robert Allsop and Timothy Allsop, both of South Amherst; his daughter Patricia Rua of South Amherst; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Annette M. Allsop (nee: Bonczek) on January 22, 1994; by his parents Robert and Hazel Allsop (nee: Leonard); and by his sisters Gloria Davidson and Ruth Gauman.

Friends may call Thursday, March 23, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services with Amherst Veteran Military Honor Guard performing honors will be held Friday, March 24, 2006 at 12 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Lunsford, pastor of South Amherst First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
