Jerry W. Underwood, 64, Enjoyed Woodworking
Jerry W. Underwood, 64 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2006 at his home following a sudden illness.He was born October 10, 1941 in Portageville, Missouri. He has been a lifetime resident of Amherst.
Hew as employed at the Lorain Plant of Fort Motor Corp. for thirty-two years, retiring in 1997 as a supervisor. He started the Lorain County Furniture Bank for the needy and served as a trustee for the Senior Citizens of Amherst. Jerry was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister. He was a loving father and husband and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and volunteering to help his neighbors and friends.
Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Susan Marie Underwood (nee: Standen); his sons Michael Underwood of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Douglas Underwood of Westfield Center, Ohio, and Joseph Underwood of Amherst; his daughter Janet Underwood of North Ridgeville; eight grandchildren; his brothers Robert Underwood of Duluth, Georgia and James Underwood of Hilliard, Ohio; his sisters Sharon Temple of Amherst; and by his mother-in-law Kathryn Standen of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Ruth Underwood.
Friends may call Sunday, March 26, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Monday, March 27, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Development Fund, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
