Mary Louise Landis, 85, Enjoyed Traveling

Mary Louise Landis (nee: Nitz), 85 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, March 27, 2006, at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a sudden illness.

She was born April 29, 1920, in Lorain and attended St. Joseph School in Lorain and Lorain High School. She has been a resident of Amherst for the last fifty years.

Mary was a homemaker. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, the Senior Citizens of Amherst, the 31 Card Club and various other clubs in Lorain and Amherst. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States, playing cards, cooking for her family, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-seven years, Leonard M. Landis; her son Leonard A. Landis of Livonia, Michigan; her daughter Phyllis J. Heise of Elyria; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; her brother Leonard; and her sister Josephine.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Elizabeth Nitz (nee: Cendrosky); by her daughter Anita; by her brothers Jack and Paul; and by her sister Doris.

Friends may call Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 p.m. from ST. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate with her son-in-law, Rev. Mr. Paul R. Heise, Jr., assisting. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, Ohio 44001 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
