Angel L. Cruz, 89, U.S. Steel Retiree

Angel L. Cruz 89 of Lorain died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 in his home following a lenghty illness.

He was born February 16, 1917 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain in 1948.

Mr. Cruz retired in 1982 from the blast furnace mill of U. S. Steel, Lorain. He worked ther for over 30 years.

He served in the Army, Battery B of the 762nd Anti Aircraft Battalion during World War II. He earned the American Theater Service Ribbon, World War II Victory Metal and four Overseas Bars.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where he was a member of the holy name society. he was part of the Curcillo number 25. He enjoyed working on his home, Big Time Wrestling and playing the Guido, spoons and his accordian to Spanish music.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Maria Iluminada Cruz (nee Dueno); sons Angel L. Cruz, Jr. of Lorain and Carlos G. Cruz of Waterford, Michigan; daughters Carmen M. Cruz-Melendez, Maria "Babe" Morsher and Ana R. Cruz all of Lorain; brothers Angel David Cruz of Puerto Rico, Sandalio "Lalo" Cruz, Miguel Angel Cruz and Jose "Chichi" Cruz all of Milwalkee, Wisconsin; sisters Rosa Maria, Gloria Ana and Ana Luz all of Puerto Rico; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parients Jose Sandalio and Petronila (Alvarado) Cruz; brothers Ramon "Tango" Cruz, Carlos A. Cruz and Jose "Pepito" Cruz; sisters Julia Carmen and 2 great grandchildren.

May call Sunday, April 1, 2006, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home. Friends may also call Monday, April 2, 2006, 8:30 AM until time of Funerel Mass at 9:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. William A. Thaden, pastor will officiate. burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
