Paul Spisak, 81, Open Hearth Technician at U.S.S. Lorain-Cuyahoga Works

Mr. Spisak was born in Pleasant City, Ohio on September 23, 1924 and had been a resident of Elyria since 1937.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving as a Corporal with Company K of the 21st Infantry in New Guinea and the southern Philippines in the Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He joined the United States Steel Corporation in 1950 and served as a technician in the open hearth division of the Lorain-Cuyahoga Works for thirty-six years. He retired from the steel producer in 1986.

Paul was a former member of V.F.W. Post # 1079 of Elyria who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by sisters Julia Olah of Lorain and Betty Lovich of Woodstock, Georgia, along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary (nee Gallo) Spisak, by brothers George, John, Andrew, Louis, and Steve Spisak, and by sisters Sue Lester, Mary Leonard, Mildred Sievert, Helen Queen, and Margaret Mertus.

Visitation will be Monday, April 3, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. only in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Edgar Anthony, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park – Amherst Township with full military honors being conducted by officers and members of VFW Post # 1079 of Elyria.
