John V. ''Ed'' Kosakowski Sr., 77, Vice President of Cleaview High School Class of 1948

Mr. Kosakowski was born in Lorain on February 13, 1929 and had been a life-long resident of the city.

He was an alumnus of Clearview High School where he served as Vice President of the Class of 1948. He went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal fulfilling duty assignments with the military forces occupying the Second Army Area.

He was employed as a heavy machine operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers and had worked throughout Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties with a variety of companies including Clem Rice, Incorporated and Bob Fuller Construction and Excavating. He later served as a custodian and maintenance man for Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain. He retired in 1994.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, his hobbies included league bowling, baseball, and working on automobiles.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years Betty Jane (nee Shullick), sons John V. Kosakowski, Jr., James, and Jeffrey all of Lorain, and twin daughters Janet Ensign of Spencer and Joan Hinkle of Elyria, four grandchildren, sisters: Betty Heider, Frances Kovach, Helen Olexa, and Theresa Tomaszewski all of Lorain, Mary Ann Jessel of Wakeman, Stella Mihalic of Sheffield Township, and a brother John Kosakowski of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Kosakowski, parents Stanislaus “Stanley” and Sophia (nee Kunkle) Kosakowski, and by brothers Virgil “Philip”, and Carl.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7, 2006, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday commencing with closing prayers at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter – 3501 Oberlin Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv, associate pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
