Frank S. Csavina, 91, Long Time Member of Spring Valley Country Club

Frank S. Csavina, age 91, of Lorain, died Tuesday April 11, 2006.

He was born December 23rd, 1914 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.

He was a graduate of Lorain High School. Following his graduation he joined the national Tube Company of Lorain and was employed there as a clerk in the shipping department.

In September of 1943 he was inducted into the United States Navy and served as a Yeoman 2nd Class until the time of his separation from duty in 1946. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal as well as the American Theater Ribbon.

Upon his return from the military Frank rejoined the National Tube Company; he retired in 1976 from United States Steel Corporation (successor to National Tube) following a career that spanned forty-six years with the steel producer.

Mr. Csavina was a parishioner of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and a member of the United Steelworkers Local # 1104.

He was an accomplished amateur athlete and a standout softball player in his younger days; he received recognition as a member of the Lorain State Championship softball team in the mid 1930’s. He also exhibited a passion for the game of golf and was a longtime member of the Spring Valley Country Club in Elyria, as well as a member of the Oberlin Golf Club, Inc, and Oak Hills Country Club.

Survivors include his daughters Beverley Csavina and Donna Williams both of Lorain, son Frank Csavina of Bellbrook, Ohio, ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edith (nee Shepherd) in 2003, by his father John Csavina, mother Mary Csavina-Penke, stepfather Louis Penke, brothers Steve and John, and sister Irene Galus.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Mr. James Debrason, permanent deacon representing Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
