Holbert Tolson, 79, Loved Fishing and Bingo

He was born October 8, 1926 in Mayking, Kentucky where he was raised. He moved to Ohio in 1961 and has been a longtime resident of Lorain and Erie County area.

Holbert served in the US Army during World War II. He was a coal miner for twenty-five years. He was also employed by the American Ship Yards in Lorain for ten years retiring in 1969 as a laborer. He was a member of the Vermilion Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Lorain American Legion Post #30, the Vermilion Eagles Club, the Lorain Moose Lodge, and the Lorain Amvets. He was a member of Sheffield Church of God and loved fishing, bingo, camping, billiards, and bowling.

Survivors include his daughters Linda Dunkle of Wakeman and Brenda Terry of Huron; four grandchildren; one great grandson; his brothers Russell Tolson and Billie Tolson, both of Lorain; and his sister-in-law Rebecca Tolson of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-eight years Ellen Tolson (nee: Adams) in 1977; by his parents Walter and Liza Tolson (nee: Holbrook); and by his brothers Hubert and Emry Tolson.

Friends may call Tuesday, April 18, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services with the Lorain American Legion Post #30 and the Lorain VFW Post #451 performing military honors will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. James Shaffer, associate pastor of Sheffield Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
