Lawrence ''Lary'' Roberts, 74, Enjoyed Fishing

Lawrence “Larry” Roberts, 74 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Community Health Partners H & S Center in Lorain following an extended illness.

He was born May 17, 1931 in Planther, West Virginia. He has been a resident of Amherst for the last forty-five years.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a military policeman. He was employed at the Lorain Plant of the Ford Motor Corp. for over thirty years retiring in 1992 as a tug operator. He raced cars at the Amherst Track and the Lorain Speedway and played baseball in this area. Larry was a lifetime member of the Lorain VFW Post #451. He was a member of the Praise and Worship Church in Elyria and enjoyed fishing, traveling in his RV, NASCAR racing and was an Indians Baseball and Browns Football fan.

Survivors include his wife Ramona K. (nee: Rose); his son Douglas V. Ray of Vermilion; his daughter Tina M. O’Neil of Clyde, Ohio; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his brother Eugene Roberts of Lorain; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Wilma Roberts (nee: Ramsey); by his parents Elias and Locie Roberts (nee: Collins); and by his sisters Frankie, Geraldine, and Fay.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 19, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services with the Lorain American Legion Post #30 and Lorain VFW Post #451 performing military honors will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. form the funeral home. The Rev. James K. Monday, pastor of the Praise and Worship Church in Elyria will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society; 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035 or the Parkinson’s Association, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44195.
