Richard W. Roy, 73, Veteran of the US Air Force
Richard W. Roy, 70 years of age, and a resident of Pineland, Florida, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2006 at The Villages Hospice house in The Villages, Florida after a year-long illness.He was born September 27, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. Amherst was his home prior to moving to Florida three years ago.
Richard was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was an air traffic controller for thirty years. After retirement, he became an instructor of his loved profession. While living in Amherst, he was active in The Lions Club of Amherst. He also served many years as an officer of the club and was the former President of The Villages Twins Club. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included working in his yard, flying, bowling, and golfing.
Survivors include his son Thomas G. Roy of Livonia, Michigan; his daughter Danielle Geissinger of Akron, OH; his grandchildren Adam, Jenelle, and Victoria; his sister Cheryl Roy of Chicago, IL; and his twin brother Roy Roy of The Villages, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-seven years Betty J. Roy (nee: Campbell) on February 7, 1987.
Friends may call Friday, April 21, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Village for Hospice; 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, Florida 32162.
