Gilda A. Mariotto, 86, Was Oldest Living Member of Nickolette Family Age

Photo of Gilda A. Mariotto Gilda A. Mariotto, (nee Nickolette), age 86, of Lorain, died Friday April 28, 2006 in the intensive care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a two week illness.

Mrs. Mariotto was born June 1, 1919 in Bellevernon, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Lorain since childhood.

At the time of her death she was the oldest living member of one of the most prominent families in Lorain history, which included inductees to the Pro Football and Lorain Sports Halls of Fame. Gilda attended Lorain High School and was a long time parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain. She was an accomplished cook who specialized in Italian cuisine and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Saint Peter Seniors' Club, and the Gramzelles Social Club of which she had been a member since high school.

Survivors included sons Ronald of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Richard of Lorain along with two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tolyo J. Mariotto in 2001, by her parents Dominic and Rose (nee Perry) Nickolette, by brothers Thomas, John, Frank, Joe, Ernest, Albert, and Louis, and by sisters Mary DeSimone, Florence Arndt, Rose Rose, and Jenny Cicco.

Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter – 3501 Oberlin Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
