Arline Virginia Williams, 87, WWII Plant Operator

She was born November 21, 1918 in Cleveland, OH. She has lived in Cleveland, Rocky River, LaPort, and Geneva, graduating from Geneva High School in 1937. After her marriage, she had lived in Russell, OH for nine years, Amherst and Aurora, OH for ten years each; summers in Port Clinton for twenty-four years; Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, FL for twenty-six years; and lastly in Lorain.

During World War II, she worked as an operator in a war plant. She was a member of the Federated Congregational Church of Christ for twelve years in Chagrin Falls; the Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ for ten years; the Garden Club; the Lakeside Women’s Club; the Women’s Golf Club; and the Beaver Creek Boat Club. She enjoyed boating, camping, gardening, painting, and dried flower arranging.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Harold D. Williams; her son Rev. Jeffrey Williams of Chesaning, Michigan; her daughter Jeannie Rice of South Amherst; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and her brother Richard Landphair of Geneva, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents George Reed and Camilla Louise Landphair (nee: Nyberg); and by her sister Lila Bliss.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 9, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 10 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Jeffrey Williams, her son and pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in St. Charles, Michigan, will officiate. Burial will be in Catawba Island Township Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH.
