John L. Kopronica, 62, Played Saxophone & Clarinet for The Castaways
John L. Kopronica, 62, of Lorain, died Tuesday May 16, 2006 at his home after a long illness.
He was born June 5, 1943 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
John was a graduate of Lorain High School with the 1961 B class.
He worked at Lorain Products for 27 � years as a quality control inspector and then for the Lorain County Engineer as a facility utility worker for 7 years retiring in 1998.
John was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain where he was active with youth programs and coached basketball. He played the saxophone and clarinet in his band The Castaways that played throughout northeast Ohio.
He was an avid bowler and coached Lorain youth baseball teams. John enjoyed sketching, drawing and playing the keyboards. In 1963 he purchased a Ford Galaxy 500 which he has today and is a collector car.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years Robin Kopronica (nee Beecheler), son Daniel Kopronica of Lorain, daughters Laura Burton of Cleveland and Vicky Bates of Green, 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son John Kopronica, grandson Alec John Kopronica and parents John G. & Eileen Kopronica (nee Bertsch).
The family will receive friends Friday 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Jimmy Madsen, co-pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Avon.
