Stephen W. "Stevie" Hutchinson , 84, Librarian at Avon Public Library

Photo of Stephen W. Stephen W. “Stevie” Hutchinson (nee Bozeman), 84, of Lorain, died Wednesday May 17, 2006 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 17, 1921 in Mandeville, Louisiana and had resided in Lorain since 1960.

Stevie served with the US Army Women’s Air Corps during World War II as a small arms instructor.

She worked as a librarian in the Avon Public Library for 10 years retiring in 1971 and then worked for the Lorain County Labor Agency in the First Call for Help program.

Stevie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lorain, American Legion Post #30 in Lorain and the Lorain Harbor Lions Club in which she was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellow. Since 1955 she volunteered with the Toys for Tots program and served on the Board of Mental Health for 12 years. She was featured in a story in the Morning Journal several years ago about her military service.

She is survived by her daughters Carol “Scottie” O’Husky of Temecula, California, Patricia Hayto of Amherst, Frankie Gray of Navarre Beach, Florida, Kathleen Spreng of Lorain and Phoebe Hadden of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sons Thomas F. Hutchinson, Jr. and Michael E. Hutchinson, both of Lorain, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and sister Florence Tynes of Jayess, Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. Hutchinson on July 27, 1995, infant daughter Mary Katherine Hutchinson, parents Scott & Florence Bozeman (nee Weightman), brother W.D. Harmon and sister Olive Harmon.

The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 PM at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM. The Rev. James Butler, pastor of Lakewood Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
