Mary Anna Shumate , 86
Mary Anna Shumate (nee: Smothers), 86 years of age, formerly of Marion, Ohio and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst.She was born November 27, 1919 in Marion, Ohio where she was raised and lived until 2002 when she moved to Amherst.
In addition to being a homemaker, she worked in retail sales for 15 years, retiring in 1981 as a sales clerk. Mary was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Marion, Ohio. She loved crafts, gardening, and flowers.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Thomas Allen and Kim Shumate of Amherst; her daughter Paula Kay Marshall of Marion, Ohio; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister Betty Schaber of Marion, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years Daniel “Eddie” Harrison Shumate in 1975; by her parents Lester E. and Myrtle Smothers (nee: Keirns); by her brother Lester H. Smothers; and by her sister Ruth Gregory.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 23, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at 12 p.m. from the church. The Rev. Chris Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery, Marion, Ohio.
