Elsie M. Smith, 88, Devoted Grandmother And Ceramic Artisan

Elsie M. Smith (nee DiNunzio), age 88, of Lorain, died Sunday June 11, 2006 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith was born in South Amherst, Ohio on October 26, 1917 and had been a resident of Lorain since her early childhood.

She was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1935-B. Elsie was most recently employed as a teller and supervisor for the former Central Bank Company in Lorain where she served predominantly at the East 28th Street/Pearl Avenue branch. She had previously been employed as a bookkeeper for the Delis Brothers Furniture Store on Broadway Avenue and had also served as a store associate with the Central Hardware Company of Lorain.

A parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, she was a past member of the Lakeview School Parent-Teacher Association; she was also active as the former Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack # 397 there.

A member of several local card clubs, Mrs. Smith was a talented a gifted artisan of ceramics. Additional interests included both flower and vegetable gardening.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years Harold E. Smith, son Joseph Smith of Avon and his wife Anne (nee McLaughlin), granddaughter Stephanie, and grandson Anthony.

She was preceded in death by her father Vincent DiNunzio in 1918, by her mother Candita (nee Dianni) DiNunzio in 1924, and a brother Angelo DiNunzio.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain.

Funeral services will be Wednesday June 14th beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church – 1454 Lexington Avenue – Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of Nativity Parish will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
