Donald V. Schultz, 87, US Army Veteran of World War II

Donald V. Schultz, 87 years of age and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born September 4, 1918 in Lorain where he was raised and graduated from Lorain High School. He had been a resident of Amherst since 1986.

He served in the US Army during World War II. He attended the Oberlin School of Business for two years. Donald was employed in insurance sales for fifty-seven years, retiring from Rorick Insurance Agency at age 70. Prior to insurance sales, he was a real estate broker with his brother. As a young man, starting in high school, he traveled with Big Bands as a trombone player.

Survivors include his son Roger D. Schultz of Columbus, Ohio; his daughter Pamela Schuster of Amherst; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years Rena Schultz (nee: Cathers) on July 30, 2002; by his son Jeff W. Schultz on October 10, 1990; by his parents Charles and Edith Schultz (nee: Weaver); and by his brothers Robert Schultz and Harold Schultz.

Graveside service with the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard performing honors will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. from the Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The Rev. James Smucker, pastor of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst, will officiate.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to CHP Regional Medical Center/ New Life Hospice; 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053.
