William Patrick O'Connor, 73, Industrial Engineer

He was born in Binghamton, NY and had resided in Lorain for the past 48 years.

Mr. O’Connor was a 1955 graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Following college, he served in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1957. He worked as an Industrial Engineer at The Ford Motor Company and retired in 1988 after 32 years of service.

Mr. O’Connor was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Lorain where he volunteered counting church collections and with the church picnic as a revenue counter. He volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain in the coffee shop, and as an AARP Tax Volunteer for the past 13 years. He was also a member of the Notre Dame Club of Lorain County. Other hobbies included golfing, reading and sports. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Browns fan.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Delores O’Connor (nee Prager); sons William M. O’Connor of Amherst, John C. O’Connor of Smithville, MO., Robert A. O’Connor of LaGrange, KY, and Patrick T. O’Connor of Vermilion; daughters Kelly Vekas of Collins, OH., and Molly Camarillo of Fairview Park, OH.; sisters Kathleen Haranzo of Wheeling, WV and Carol Ford of Texas and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. O’Connor; mother, Mary O’Connor (nee Cunningham); brother James R. O’Connor; and sisters Barbara Dempsey and Eileen Butler.

Friends may call Friday 4-8 PM at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway in Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
