Emil A. Cyran, 85, Engineer For Lorain Telephone Company and Centel
Emil A. Cyran, age 85, of Lorain, died Thursday July 6, 2006 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following an extended illness.He was born January 2, 1921 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.
Emil attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parochial School in Lorain and went on to graduate from Lorain High School.
He was a World War II United States Army veteran who was attached to the Second Signal Service Battalion APO 617 as a Technician Third Grade. He fulfilled duty assignments as a fixed station intercept operator there and was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He also held certification as a Rifle Marksman.
Mr. Cyran was employed as an engineer with the Lorain Telephone Company and its successor company Centel. He retired in 1983.
He was a parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church and was a member of the church’s Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Lorain Lions Club.
Emil enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes. He was also a golf enthusiast who enjoyed crafting golf clubs for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Dorothy (nee Szewczyk), sons Edward E. Cyran and his wife Diane of Huber Heights, Ohio and Ronald J. Cyran along with his wife Jane of Columbia, Maryland, daughter Cheryl A. Bohn and her husband Jeffrey of Twinsburg, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister Julia Harchar of Douglasville, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Mary (nee Mlyczek) Cyran, and by brothers Joseph and Stanley.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain where a rosary service will be conducted by the officers and members of the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday beginning with closing prayers at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church 2702 Elyria Avenue Lorain with the Reverend David A. Novak, Parish Administrator officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
