Carl John Wenrich, 89, World War II Army Veteran

Carl John Wenrich, 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, July 10, 2006 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness.

He was born October 13, 1916 in Homestead, Pennsylvania. He came to Lorain in 1921 and graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1936. He has been a resident of Amherst since 1945.

He served in the US Army during World War II as a flight training officer. Car was employed with the Lake Terminal Railroad for forty years retiring in 1979 as an engineer. He was also a former Amherst Chief of Police and the first Safety Director under Amherst Mayor Janik. He was a member of Amherst American Legion Elmer Johnson Post #118 and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his son John Wenrich of Sebastian, Florida; his daughter Kathleen Aldons of Melbourne, Florida; one granddaughter; and his sister Joan Goohs of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donola Wenrich (nee: Brill) in 1989; by his parents Michael and Johanna Wenrich (nee: Weber); and by his brother Michael “Bill” William Wenrich.

Graveside services with the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will be held Thursday, July 13, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Brownhelm Cemetery in Brownhelm Township. Rev. Elizabeth Terrill, pastor of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to CHP Regional Medical Foundation/ New Life Hospice; 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain 44053.

Arrangements are being handled by Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, OH 44001.
