Annabel Evans, 93, Avid Volunteer
Annabel Evans (nee: Gearhart), 93 years of age, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006 at her home following a brief illness.She was born March 14, 1913 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania where she was raised and lived for 89 years. She has been a resident of Elyria since 2002.
In addition to being a homemaker, she assisted her husband for many years with Meals on Wheels and volunteered for 20 years with the Frick Memorial Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant where she served in the choir, was a former Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Missionary Society. Annabel was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Garden Club and was a charter member of the Stitch and Chatter Club. She enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include her sons Thomas L. Evans and Eugene C. Evans, both of Amherst and Glenn R. Evans of Avon; her daughter Darlene Schultz of Greenville, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years Eugene C. Evans in 1981; by her parents George C. and Emma Gearhart (nee: Porch); and by her brother Clarence Albert Gearhart.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 1 p.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be held Friday, July 21, 2006 at 12 p.m. in Westmoreland County Cemetery, Hempfield Township Pennsylvania.
