John Yuhas, 99, US Steel Retiree
John Yuhas, age 99, of Lorain, died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home following a two-week illness.Mr. Yuhas was born April 20, 1907 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.
John was employed as a general foreman in the Lorain-Cuyahoga Works of the United States Steel Corporation in the Blast Furnace Division. He retired in 1965 after a career that spanned forty-two years with the steel producer.
Mr. Yuhas was a member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship as well as the U.S. Steel Management Club. He was an avid reader who had a special interest in books pertaining to gardening and landscaping. He was also an accomplished oil painter who specialized in mountain scenes and seascapes. Additional interests included inter-continental travel, league bowling, and taking trips via automobile.
Survivors include his daughter Joni Septaric of Lorain, 2 step-sons, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Jane (nee Novak), by his second wife Lillian Southard-Yuhas, by brothers Mike Yuhas and William Yuhas, and by a sister Mary Blazina.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 AM in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Ralph Krupp, deacon of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
