John J. "Jack" Snyder, 84, Clearview High School 1940 Class Valedictorian
John J. Jack Snyder, 84, of Amherst Township, died Friday July 28, 2006 at the Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness.He was born May 16, 1922 in Lorain and had resided in Amherst Township since 1975.
Jack was a graduate of Clearview High School in 1940 and was the class valedictorian. He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a technician in the rolling mill for 39 years retiring in 1980.
Jack was a past member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and a member of USWA #1104 in Lorain. He enjoyed attending auctions and antiquing and was an avid reader of adventure stories. He assisted many of his friends with the sale of their home. Jack enjoyed dancing and as a youth spent a lot of time at the Lincoln Park Ballroom in Lorain which was owned by his grandfather.
He is survived by his son Jack Snyder of Elyria, granddaughter Joanna Petrillo of Lorain, grandson Jarred Snyder of Elyria Township and great grandchildren Michael & Claire Petrillo. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Snyder (nee Schmidt) in 2001, parents John J. & Dora Snyder (nee Blass), brother Sylvester Skip Sipple and sisters Beatrice Betty Hall and Dorothy Mazurek.
The family will receive friends Monday 2-4, 6-8 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Philip Kunz, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
