Kathleen M. O'Brien , 71, Taught Religion Classes

Kathleen M. O’Brien (nee Grimes), 71, of Lorain died Tuesday August 1, 2006 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 4, 1935 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident. She was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary High School in Lorain.

Kathy worked at CEI in Cleveland for 3 years and then for the Lorain city schools in the cafeteria for 10 years.

She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain where she sang in the church choir and taught religion classes for the mentally challenged. She enjoyed working with stained glass.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Robert O’Brien of Lorain, sons: Kevin O’Brien of Richmond, Virginia, Timothy O’Brien, Terrence O’Brien and Michael O’Brien, all of Lorain; daughter Coleen Siwierka of Elyria and Mary Kay O’Brien of Lorain, 3 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Clara Grimes (nee Theabalt), sister Barbara Shindler and brother Francis P. Grimes.

The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth J. Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter School Scholarship Fund, 3601 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44052.
