Anna M. Zima, 93, Grew Up in Czechoslovakia
Anna M. Zima (nee Firca), 93, of Lorain died Wednesday August 2, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a short illness.
She was born July 17, 1913 in Star Junction, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since the age of 21. She grew up in Spisky Nova Ves, Czechoslovakia and also lived in Kosice, Czechoslovakia.
Anna worked as a cook for the Fligner family in Lorain. She had also worked at Lorain Novelty for 5 years and for the American Slovak Club for Friday fish fry.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and the church Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of Slovak Catholic Sokols and a volunteer with the Salvation Army in Lorain. She served as a Ward 4 Precinct Committee Person.
Anna enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, gardening, baking ethnic pastries and dancing.
She is survived by her daughters Ann Masin of Strongsville, Agnes Bailey of Lorain and Marilyn Finch of Lorain, son Joseph P. Zima of Fenton, Michigan, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and sister Elizabeth in Spisky Nova Ves, Slovakia. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph V. Zima in 1975, parents John & Mary Firca (nee Mudri), grandson Ryan Thomas Finch in 1982, brother Joseph Firca and sister Mary.
The family will receive friends Friday 5-9 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society will recite the rosary Friday at 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
