Robert Gordon Mustard, 89, Enjoyed Traveling and Civil War History

Robert Gordon Mustard, 89 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 12, 1917 in Scioto County, Ohio where he was raised. He moved to Lorain County in 1947. Robert has been a resident of Vermilion since 1950.

He served with the US Army Air Corp. during World War II with the 501st Bomber Squadron Headquarters where he received the American Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars. Robert was employed with Moody Inspection in Pennsylvania and later with the United States Steel in Lorain for twenty-five years retiring in 1973 as a foreman. He loved making muzzle loading guns, traveling, puzzles and Civil War history.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years Creolla Jeanette Mustard (nee: Howard).

He was preceded in death by his sons Steven Mustard in February 1967 and Bruce Mustard in June 1966; by his parents Robert Q and Zora Mustard (nee: Stephenson); by his brothers William and Russell Mustard; and by his sister Mary Mustard.

Friends may call Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday, August 11, 2006 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Gordon Lightfoot, pastor of Batesville Baptist Church in Batesville, Indiana, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to CHP Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice; 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
