Ruth E. Hiltabidel, 89, Retired 3rd Grade Teacher
Ruth E. Hiltabidel (nee: Cunningham), 89 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Community Health Partners in Lorain, following a brief illness.She was born September 15, 1916 in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania. She has been a resident of this area since 1953.
She was employed with the Amherst School System at Powers Elementary for twenty-four years retiring in 1980 as a 3rd grade teacher. Ruth was a member, former treasurer, and active in the Ladies Circle of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, traveling, and her cats.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-laws Gail G. and Kathy Hiltabidel and Paul R. and Carol Hiltabidel both of Lorain; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years Gilbert David Hiltabidel on May 23, 1987; by her great grandson, Kyle; by nine brothers and sisters; and by her parents Robert and Tobitha Cunningham (nee: Morrison).
Friends may call Friday, August 18, 2006, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Ihasz, pastor of Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
