Jerome S. ''Jerry'' Hromada, 61, Roll Turner & Expediter @ US Steel

Jerome S. “Jerry” Hromada, 61, of Lorain died Friday August 18, 2006 in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born February 8, 1945 in Lorain and had lived in Lorain most of his life.

Jerry was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary Academy in Lorain where he lettered in varsity baseball and a graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic School in Lorain where he served church mass as an Altar Boy.

He worked at US Steel, USS/Kobe and Republic Technologies in Lorain in the Roll Shop as a Roll Turner and later as an Expediter for 35 years retiring in 2001. He also worked for Lorain Exterminating as an Exterminator for 3 years and at the American Slovak Club in Lorain as a bar tender. As a youth he worked at Slovak Lanes as a PinSetter and later in the Laundry Room at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. He currently was employed as an Attendant and Driver at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel in Lorain for the past 4 years.

Jerry was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and golfing and had golfed in the St. Anthony Church league and the Italian-American Veterans league. He enjoyed bowling and had bowled in the Slovak Social League at Slovak lanes. He also enjoyed traveling and had taken several trips to Las Vegas and bus trips to casinos in Detroit, Michigan and Canada.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Catherine E. Hromada (nee Hanko), daughter Michele Papay of Lorain, son Jerome M. Hromada of Lorain, 5 grandchildren, sister Marian Crompton of Lorain and brother Edward Hromada of Oberlin and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Edward J. “Red” Hromada in 1990, mother Helen T. Hromada (nee Pasternak) in 2004 and brother William J. Hromada in 1999.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 21, 2006, from 4-8 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and the Rev. William Schill, deacon, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
