Joseph J. Blazina, 74, Retired Machinist At United States Steel
Joseph J. Blazina, age 74, of Lorain, died Thursday August 24, 2006 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following a brief illness.Mr. Blazina was born in Lorain on February 9, 1927 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He was a 1945 graduate of Lorain High School and was a veteran of the United States Army where he served stateside at the conclusion of World War II.
He was employed as a machinist at the Lorain-Cuyahoga Works of the United States Steel Corporation; Mr. Blazina retired in 1987 following a career that had spanned forty-three years with the steel producer.
He enjoyed travel and had visited almost all of our fifty states. Additional interests included current event, sports, and solving crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years Mary (Nee Pietromica), brother Steven of Columbus, sisters Ann Luca and Hilda Chulig both of Lorain, and nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Ljuba Hilda Blazina, by brothers Mike, John, and Charles Blazina, and sister Mary Yager.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain. Funeral services will begin with closing prayers offered Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in The Catholic Church of Saint Peter 3501 Oberlin Avenue Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of Saint Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
