Veronica A. Unger, 88, Poll Worker for Board of Elections

Photo of Veronica A.  Unger Veronica A. “Vernie” Unger (nee Jaworski), 88, of Lorain, died Friday August 25, 2006 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

She was born May 20, 1918 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

In the 1940’s Vernie worked at Goodall’s and Weitz Garment Factory. She worked the polls for the Lorain Board of Elections for over 40 years.

Vernie was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and the church Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed ceramics.

She is survived by her son Joseph R. Unger and daughter Nancy Szarek, both of Westlake, 6 grandchildren: Kenneth Unger, David Unger, Thomas Unger and Michael Unger and Laura Szarek and Robert Szarek, 8 great grandchildren, brothers Daniel Jaworski and John Jaworski, both of Amherst, Richard Jaworski and Robert Jaworski, both of Lorain and sisters Dorothy Turton and Rita Swartz, both of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph F. Unger in 1999, parents John C. Jaworski (former mayor of Lorain) and Sophie Jaworski (nee Bash) and brothers Herman Jaworski, Ralph Jaworski, Jerome Jaworski and Joseph Jaworski.

The family will receive friends Monday 5-8 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Altar & Rosary Society will recite the rosary Monday at 5:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor and the Rev. Robert Dybo, deacon, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
