Louis Carballada, 82, Retiree of B.F. Goodrich

Photo of Louis Carballada Louis Carballada, age 82, of Lorain died Saturday August 26, 2006 at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Massillon, OH on August 25, 1924, Louis was a resident of Lorain for over 70 years.

Louis was a veteran of the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. He served with the Battery A 143rd Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and Presidential Citation Goldedge Blue Medal.

Mr. Carballada was employed as a foreman at the former B.F. Goodrich Chemical Plant in Avon Lake until his retirement in 1985. In earlier years he was the owner of the Fairmont Dairy Bar located on Pearl Avenue in Lorain.

Louis was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain.

A member of the Italian American Veterans Post No. 1, Louis also served on the Lorain Auxiliary Police Force, and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 12 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, making wine, traveling - especially to Spain and Argentina, watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events, and attending Cleveland Browns and Indians games.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa (nee Tilosanec) of Lorain, daughters JoAnn Myers and husband Denny of Lorain, Susan White and husband Doug of Vermilion, son Joseph Carballada and wife Cathy of Lyndhurst, grandchildren Melissa Myers, Nicole Myers, Cindy Carballada, Tommy Carballada and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Cynthia M. Wildman in 1995, father Jose Carballada in 1988, mother Josepha (nee Gonzalez) Carballada in 1974, and sister Betty Gonzalez.

Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 PM in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Closing prayers will be Wednesday at 9:30 in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain with the Reverend Charles Henkle, OFM, Conv., associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with members of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 conducting military honors.
