Mary Foster, 79, Advocate For Equal Rights for Women
Mary Foster (nee Coleman), 79, of Lorain died Sunday August 27, 2006 at her home following a long illness.
She was born in Dunham, Kentucky and had resided in Lorain for over 50 years.
Mary enjoyed factory work and had been employed at Mascon Toy Company in Lorain and Ajax Paper Tube in Westlake before gaining employment with Ford Motor Company in Lorain from which she retired after 13 years of service. She was very supportive of union activities and a staunch advocate of equal rights for women especially in non-traditional employment.
Mary was an avid fan of professional football especially the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her family, friends and pets. In recent years, she enjoyed wintering in Florida with her son Grover.
She is survived by her daughters Terri Atkinson of Westlake, Nancy Hobbs and Jeanette Zuffa, both of Lorain; son Grover Foster of Hollywood, Florida; grandchildren Michelle Perrigan, Steven Golowenski Foster, Renee Minick, Michael Burgess and Donielle Atkinson; 3 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon L. Foster in 1994, parents Nancy Coleman (nee Hall) and Grover Cleveland Coleman; sisters Caroline Jenkins and Hester Mullins, brothers Talmadge Coleman, Howard Coleman and Grover Charles Coleman and grandchildren David Woody and Erica Atkinson.
Private funeral services will be held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.
