Ada Dale Scarpitti, 82, Co-Owned & Operated Dan's Deli

Photo of Ada Dale  Scarpitti Ada Dale Scarpitti (nee Reed), 82, of Avon Lake, died Sunday September 3, 2006 at the home of her daughter in Amherst due to Alzheimer’s Disease and a heart condition.

She was born June 15, 1924 in Elkins, West Virginia and moved to Akron, Ohio in 1942. She lived in Avon Lake from 1954-1983 before moving to Lorain where she lived from 1983 to 2002.

Ada graduated from Elkins High School in Elkins, West Virginia in 1942 and moved to Akron and worked at Aircraft at Goodyear as a “Rosie the Riveter” girl during World War II. In 1946 she married and along with her husband owned and operated Budget Market on Park Street in Akron until 1954. They moved to Avon Lake and in 1960 opened Dan’s Delicatessen that they operated for 23 years. In 1983 she became manager of Sycamore Square Apartments in Lorain until she retired in 2002.

Ada is a former member of Women of the Moose Lodge in Lorain.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Dusty (Josephine) Hamilton of Amherst, grandson Anthony, granddaughter Lisa of Ashland, Ohio, 4 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters and companion of 8 years Frank Schwarz of Sheffield Village and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Dante “Dan” Scarpitti in 1995, parents Homer and Nettie Reed (nee Pritt) and sisters Idora “Dodie” Speicher Hood and Mary Flanigan, both of Akron.

Friends may call Friday 3-7 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:30 PM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
