Dorene Gaynor, 82, Loved Traveling and Sewing
Mrs. Dorene Gaynor (nee Wallace), 82, of Lorain, died Sunday, September. 3, 2006 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, following a brief illness.She was born in Paint Lick, KY on July 9, 1924. She graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY in 1948 with a major in Early Childhood Development.
After graduation, she moved to Berea, OH and worked as a housemother at the Berea Children's Home where she met and later married her husband and moved to Lorain.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Lorain, where she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, and was a member of the United Methodist Women's Mary Circle. She served as President of Church Women United, and also worked in the Church's day care center. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and countless other causes. She later joined Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church and continued her volunteer service there.
She loved traveling, sewing, music, gardening, as well as enjoying her family and reading The Bible.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lawrence E. Gaynor Sr., twin daughters Sarah Powers of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sandra Agnello of Macomb, MI., son L. Edward Gaynor Jr., of Lorain; a brother Ralph O. Wallace of Paris, KY.; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William M. and Ola (nee Johnson) Wallace, brother William R. Wallace; and sister Zella P. Calico.
Friends may call at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer, and Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Friday Sept. 8, 2006 from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM. Funeral services will be Saturday Sept. 9, 2006 at 10:00 am in Delaware Ave. United Methodist Church, 658 E. Erie, Lorain with Rev. John Ferris, officiating.
Burial will be in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio.
