Jack W. Hoban, 66, Van and Truck Alternatives Owner

Jack W. Hoban, 66, passed away Saturday morning, September 9, 2006 at his home following a cerebral vascular incident.

He was born January 6, 1940 in East Cleveland and was raised in Willoughby, Ohio. He made his home in California from 1960 to 1994 and worked as a plant superintendent for Harvey Aluminum and later became the owner of a recreational vehicle company called Jack and Tod’s Competition Vans. In 1994, Jack returned to Elyria where he owned and operated Van and Truck Alternatives.

He was also a reserve police officer for the Redondo Beach Police Department in California and a member of the Elyria Moose Lodge. One of his fondest memories in life was being a bat boy for the Cleveland Indians during the 1954 and 1955 seasons. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed playing pool, pinochle and spending time with his family when possible. One thing for sure, you could always find Jack playing with his dog, Akita.

Survivors include his companion of 15 years, Nona Camack of Elyria, children Pamela Rothwell, John E. Hoban and Cheryl Nel; grandchildren, Christine, Summer, Nicole, John (JR), John and Jake – all residents of California; siblings Judy Thompson of Mentor, Chuck Hoban of Strongsville, Jan Sternot of Concord, Dick Hoban of Wickliffe, and Bob Hoban of Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his parents John E. and Ester (nee Wallet) Hoban.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Pastor Russell Hoban will officiate. Burial will be in the Mentor Municipal Cemetery, Mentor, Ohio.
