Victoria J. Beiswenger, 94, Active in Lorain Liedertafel

Photo of Victoria J. Beiswenger Victoria J. Beiswenger (nee Drexler), 94, of Lorain died Friday September 22, 2006 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain after a long illness.

She was born November 17, 1911 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Victoria was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lorain where she was active with church functions helping in the kitchen, at rummage sales and at coffee hour. She was an honor member and recording secretary of the Lorain Liedertafel singing society and had traveled to many cities throughout Ohio to sing. She was a member and recording secretary of the Saxon Club in Lorain and the Saxon singing group. She bowled in the Liedertafel bowling league at the Saxon Club and Slovak Club.

Victoria was active with her children’s school activities and enjoyed cooking and baking. She graduated from Lorain Business College. She played the piano and had played piano music during silent film shows at the former Cozy Theater in Lorain. She enjoyed embroidery and had made many pillowcases and scarves.

She is survived by her daughter Marlene Holko of Lorain, son Fred Beiswenger of Lorain, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick “Fritz” Beiswenger in 1978, daughter Lois Nickoloff in 2000, grandson Kenneth N. Welch in 1985, parents Wenzel and Katherine Drexler (nee Ball), sisters Johanna Cherven and Wilma Drexler and brother William Drexler.

The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at St. John United Church of Christ, 715 Reid Ave., Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
