Victor Danevich, 96, Graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1929
Victor Danevich, 96, of Lorain, died Saturday October 7, 2006 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joesph in Lorain after a short illness.He was born September 1, 1910 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Victor was a graduate of the Lorain High School class of 1929A and played basketball on the varsity team that won the 1929 city championship.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain in the Three Seamless Mill for 47 years retiring in 1975.
Victor was the oldest living member of St. Vitus Catholic Church in Lorain and was a life member of the Croatian Club in Lorain where he worked as a steward when it was located on Grove Avenue.
He played class A baseball for the Lorain Blue Bells. He was an avid horse racing fan and enjoyed bowling. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
He is survived by his sons: Victor Danevich Jr. and Richard "Chubby" Danevich, both of Lorain, daughter Phyllis Zakrajsek, of Lorain, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary. R. "Mara" Danevich (nee Frankovich) in 2000, parents Felix and Pauline Danevich (nee Rarobinta) and brothers Pete Danevich, Joe Danevich, Felix Danevich, and Frank Danevich.
The family will recieve friends Monday 4-8 p.m. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Parish Rosary will be recited Monday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vitus Catholic Church, 1785 E. 32nd St., Lorain. The Rev. Simon Nekic, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetary in Lorain.
