Lena Sposato, 91
Lena L. Sposato (nee DeSantis), age 91, of Lorain, died Friday October 13, 2006 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation following a brief illness. Mrs. Sposato was born in Shamrock, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1914 and had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood. She was graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1933-A.Lena began her working career as a seamstress with S. Weitz and Company in Lorain. She later assumed bookkeeping responsibilities for the family-owned DeSantis Coal Company and most recently served in the same capacity for the Charleston Car Washes, Incorporated a Lorain business entity owned and operated by her daughter and son-in-law.
Lena was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain as well as a member of the Lakeland Woman’s Club. She enjoyed attending tea parties and was regarded as an excellent cook. She was gifted in her abilities to crochet afghans and craft various forms of clothing. Mrs. Sposato also enjoyed all forms of arts and crafts as well as gardening and attending physical fitness classes at the Y.M.C.A. She was highly devoted to her family.
She is survived by her husband of seventy years Amil P. Sposato, daughter Mrs. Jack (Patricia) Hemminger of Lorain, granddaughter Mrs. Gary (Christy) Hemminger Garbinski of Bay Village, great granddaughter Halle Lee Garbinkski, brother Peter DeSantis of Lorain, and sisters Ann Brunotts, Mickey Kosanovich, Eva Costin, and Vi Horvath of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dominic and Antonia (nee Fabrizi) DeSantis.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning with the closing prayers at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter 3501 Oberlin Ave. Lorain. The Reverend Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor of Saint Peter will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst Township.
