George Koscho, 82, US Navy Veteran

George Koscho, 82, of Lorain, died Monday, October 16, 2006 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital after a long illness.

He was born March 28, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

George served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a seaman first class in the Pacific and Mediterranean. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation and the American Campaign Medal.

George worked at the Ford Assembly Plant in Lorain and then at the Avon Lake Ford Assembly Plant as a relief man retiring in 1984. Prior to that he worked at US Steel in Lorain.

George was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Lorain, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain, a member of AMVETS Post #47 in Lorain and the Greek Catholic Union Lodge #77. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and bowling and had a cottage on Kelley’s Island for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jeanette Koscho (nee Golini), son George Williams of Lorain, 3 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and sister Anna Kalosky of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Mary Koscho (nee Mayermik), sister Mary Blinka, and brothers Michael Koscho, Nicholas Koscho, Andrew Koscho, Edward Koscho, and John Koscho.

The family will receive friends Thursday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Glunva Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where the Parastas service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the Devine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th St., Lorain. The Rev. Nicholas Rachford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
