Carmine R. Santarelli, 90, 1985 Veteran of the Year
Carmine R. Santarelli 90 of Lorain, died Saturday, October 21, 2006, in Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain following a lengthy illness.He was born July 25, 1916 in Bentlyville, Pennsylvania. He came to Lorain in 1922. He graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1935-A.
Mr. Santarelli owned and operated C. R. Santarelli insurance Agency, Lorain for 30 years retiring in 1981.
He was a World War II sergeant serving with the 807th Army air force base unit in the France. He earned Central European Theater ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater ribbon, World War II victory metal and the Good Conduct Metal.
Mr. Santarelli was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also an honorary lifetime member of the Italian-American Veterans Post 1, Lorain, and life member of the Veterans of Foreign wars Post 451, Lorain. He was past president of the Veterans' Council. He was the Veteran of the Year in 1985.
He was a member of the Lorain County Democrat Executive Committee, Lorain Central Democratic Committee and the Lorain City Club.
He enjoyed reading, socializing, riding his bicycle.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Santarelli of Sheffield Lake and Ann Marie Kretovics: and Five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Rita "Bunny" Santarelli in last October; his parents Carmine and Elvira (nee Berlorra) Santarelli; a son David Santarelli in 1977; brothers Pasquale and Edward Santarelli; sisters Jennie Burk and Amelia Paonessa.
Friends may call Monday, October 23, 2006, 4:00 to 6:00 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 24, 2006 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by 10:00 AM mass of the Christian burial in Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain here the Italian-American Veterans Post 1, Lorain will conduct military honors.
