K. George Ksiazek, 80, World War II Survivor
K. George Ksiazek, 80 of Lorain, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the home of his daughter in Lorain, following a 5-month illness.He was born on January 2, 1926 in Poland where he lived until Poland was invaded by the Germans and the Soviet Union. His family was then shipped to a Siberian prison camp where they lived for 6 years. Upon their escape, both he and his father fought together under the British Military Command where he was an information specialist, able to translate in 7 different languages. Following the war and the reunion of his family, they immigrated to the United States in 1952 and settled in Lorain. He has been a resident of Lorain since.
He was employed as an electrician at the American Shipyard and also at Bendix-Westinghouse, until his retirement. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 38. He was an avid gardener and horticulturist, building his own greenhouse, where he enjoyed sharing picnics and posies with his family.
Survivors include his wife of over 51 years, Dixie O. (nee Murray) Ksiazek; daughters, Kimberly (Timothy) Cantwell of Hudson and Janette L. Ksiazek of Lorain; son, Stefan T. Ksiazek of N. Ridgeville; 6 Grandsons; sisters, Emilia Koczan of Sheffield Lake and Jeanie Blaz of Elyria; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded-in-death by his parents, Waclaw (Walter P.) and Elizabeth (nee Kajewski) Ksiazek, brother, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Kimberly Ksiazek and 2 granddaughters.
Friends may call Friday, December 1, 2006 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the
Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 10:00 am at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th Street,
Lorain. Reverend Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
