Ruth Burkhard, 89, Past President Of Women's Democratic Club
Ruth Ellen Burkhard (nee Dailey), 89 of Sandusky, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006 at Parkvue Healthcare Center, Sandusky, after a short illness.She was born August 30, 1917 in Pittsburg, PA and had been an Elyria resident since 1948 moving to Port St. Lucie, FL in the mid 80's and then to Sandusky, OH in 2000.
She graduated from the Robert Morris School of Business. She worked on the March of Dimes Drives for the Elyria Jaycees for three years, the Elyria YMCA for five years, was secretary for the Mayor of Elyria (Charles V. Neeson) for two years, was secretary for the Elyria Holiday Inn restaurant when it first opened, the Auto Title office for two years when Charles V. Neeson was elected Clerk of Courts, and retired as a legal secretary and treasure for West, West and West Law Firm after 15 years.
Mrs. Burkhard was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church, Elyria, a charter member of the Jaycee-Ettes, past president of the Elyria Democratic Women's Club, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 12, Elyria, past president and treasurer of Past Presidents Parley, and past Chapeaux of Salon 334, Eight et Forty. She enjoyed traveling in her motor home, sewing, knitting, reading, crafts, golf, playing bridge and poker.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Valorie Hildum of Vermilion, and Patricia Taylor of Gulf Stream, FL; son, David Burkhard of North Ridgeville; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Corbett of Murrysville, PA; and brother, Robert Dailey of Pittsburg, PA.
Preceding her in death were her husband Christian H. Burkhard in 2002, parents, Robert and Elizabeth (nee Watson) Dailey, son, J. Frank Burkhard in 1998, and 2 brothers, Paul and Frank Dailey.
Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006 from 10 am until the time of funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.
Bill Michaels, Chaplin at Parvue Healthcare center, will be Officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Elyria.
