Frank C. Moore, 87, World War II Navy Veteran

Frank C. Moore, 87 of Lorain died Saturday, November 18, 2006, at his home
following a long illness.

Mr. Moore was born in Lorain, OH on July 18, 1919, and was a lifelong
resident. He was a graduate of Lorain High School. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College and did postgraduate work at Western Reserve University.

He was a member of First Congregational Church of Lorain. He served on various church boards and was Church Moderator, twice.

Mr. Moore served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as a commissioned officer. He was aboard a ship that did minesweeping and antisubmarine patrols in the Pacific.

He retired from Stanadyne Corp. in 1982 after 35 years of service. He had worked as manager of customer support services in the western steel group division. Prior to that assignment, He had been a sales representative calling on manufacturers from the east coast to St. Louis, MO for three different divisions of the company. Before his naval service, he had been in industrial relations for the Weatherhead Company for two years.

Mr. Moore served on the board of the Lorain County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Advisory Board of the Lorain Salvation Army.

He was a member of F & AM Black River Lodge #552, Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Al Koran -Cleveland, Lorain County Shrine Club, and Scottish Rite Club, longtime member and supporter of the Great Lakes Historical Society and a member of the American Legion Post 888.

Mr. Moore was an avid sailor and held a Master's License to captain steam powered, motored or sailing vessels on the Great Lakes. He helped organize Huron River Sailing Association in the 70's. It subsequently became part of the Huron Yacht Club and he served as an officer and then Director.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor J. (nee Pape) to whom he was married on July 2, 1941, daughter Nancy Johnson of Vermilion, son Roger F. Moore of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, 4 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ina (nee Corkill) Moore and a sister Mary Alice Moore.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2006, at 10:30 AM in the First Congregational Church, 423 Washington Ave. Lorain with Rev. Carl Richter, senior minister, officiating.

Burial will immediately follow the service in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, with full military honors provided jointly by VFW Post 451 and American Legion Post 30.

Family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund at the First Congregational Church, 423 Washington Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44052.
