Martin P. Farais, 81, World War II Veteran
Martin P. Farais, 81, of Lorain, died Monday December 4, 2006 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness.He was born August 26, 1925 in Blaine, Ohio and had resided in Lorain for the past 60 years.
Martin served with the US Marine Corps during World War II as a corporal in the Pacific Theater and participated in action in Okinawa, Japan. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps working in the Yellowstone Park area.
He worked at US Steel as a rigger and millwright in the powerhouse for 41 years retiring in 1984.
Martin was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and a life member of both AMVETS Post #47 and the American Slovak Club. He was a member of USWA Local #1104 where he served as a grievance man and steward. While he was in the Marine Corps he began boxing and was a local amateur boxer. He played baseball and softball for the US Steel team and enjoyed bowling, gardening, fishing and traveling.
He is survived by his son Michael Farais of Lorain, daughter Nancy Reardon of Lorain, 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and brother John Farais of Avon. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Farais (nee Neely) in 2003, parents Martin and Johanna Farais and sisters Ann Farais and Mary Shea.
