Mildred Lynette ''Lynn'' Broz, 82, Enjoyed Cross Stitching

Mildred Lynette "Lynn" Broz, 82 of Lorain passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Community Regional Health Center in Lorain following a long illness.

Mrs. Broz was born in Lorain on November 24, 1924, and has been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1943A and a lifelong member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Lorain. She also taught Sunday School for 40 years.

During the 1930's, she was a member of the Gingham Girls in Lorain. She received an award for meritorious personal service from the American Red Cross during WW II. She had worked for Thom McCann's Shoe Store and later for the administrative office at Miami University of Ohio.

For more than 30 years, Mrs. Broz was actively involved in the Cub Scouts, serving as a Den Mother and a Den Mother Coach. She served as chairperson of the cub scouts northeast district committee from 1975-1978. She was presented the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor bestowed to scouting adult leaders.

For many years she volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital, later at Community Health Partners, first as a "playroom lady" and then in the gift shop for more than 10 years. In the 1980's, she was a volunteer reading tutor for special education classes in the Lorain City School District.

She was received a "Community Builder's Award for being an Outstanding Citizen" by F. & AM Masonic Lodge # 552.

Mrs. Broz hobbies' include cross stitching, plastic needle hook and latch hook crafts. She also enjoyed hiking and riding her bicycle around Lorain County and swimming in her pool.

She is survived by her husband William J. "Bill" Broz, Sr to whom she was married on July 24, 1948. Also surviving are daughters Carol Mathews, Cathy Broz both of Lorain, sons William J. "Jack" Broz, Jr., Rick Broz both of Lorain, Jim Broz, Jon Broz both of Vermilion, Raymond Broz of Brunswick, 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, sister Jean Kesselring of Lebanon, OH, and a brother Earl James of Port Ritchie, FL.

Mrs. Broz was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Grace (nee Barrett) James, brothers Paul James, William Elson James and a sister Ruth James.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 21, 2006, from 2-4 & 6-9 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio.

Funeral Services will be Friday, December 21, 2006, at 11:00 AM in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 400 W. 6th Street, Lorain, with Rev. Darlene Robinson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Lorain, OH.
