Bernard A. ''Sparky'' Reed, 79, Maintenance Mechanic
Bernard A. "Sparky" Reed, 79 of Lorain, died Monday, December 18, 2006 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain following a several month decline in health.He was born March 13, 1927 in Fremont, Ohio and has been a Lorain resident most of his life.
He served in the United States Army during WWII from June 1945-December 1946 with the 1120th Engineer Combat Group.
He worked for Fruehauf from 1948-1970 and as a maintenance mechanic for Ohio Edison until his retirement in 1989. He was a lifetime member of B.P.O.E #1301 in Lorain and coached their little league sponsored team for many years.
Survivors include his sons, Dale Reed of Weatherford, Texas and David Reed of Lorain; 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren; brother, Russell Reed of Lorain.
He was preceded-in-death by his wife, Mary Ruth Reed (nee Zelek) on December 11, 2005, parents, Howard G. and Isabel L. (nee Ehman) Reed and sisters, Garnett Weider and Faye D'Andrea.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 20, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 21, 2006. The Reverend Robert Franco, pastor of St. Teresa Church in Sheffield Village, will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
