Susan Gencur , 103, Past President of the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society

Susan Gencur (nee Hancak), age 103-1/2, died Wednesday December 20, 2006 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home.

Born June 13, 1903 in Czechoslovakia, she resided in Cleveland until moving to Lorain in 1923, where she remained a lifelong resident.

Susan had previously worked cleaning houses, and later worked with the chef at Charles Restaurant, and at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland serving in the nurses dining room.

Mrs. Gencur was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she attended daily mass, the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society, of which she was a past president, and St. Anne�s Lodge Br. #114. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and quilting.

Susan is survived by sons Frank Gencur of Lorain and Jim Gencur of Safety Harbor, Florida, daughter Irene Amato of Elyria, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emery Gencur in 1970, son Rev. Paul A. Gencur in 1978, parents John and Mary (nee Piskura) Hancak, brothers Joseph Hancak and Stephen H. Hancak, and sisters Catherine Bocak, Barbara Svec, Margaret Babicova, Mary Hancak, and Helen Klenotic.

The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 PM in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain where combined members of the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society and St. Anne�s Lodge Br. #114 will recite the rosary at 4:15 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday beginning at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend David A. Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made for masses in her memory to the family or Holy Trinity Church.
