Gene A. Westfall, 73, Korean War Veteran
Gene A. Westfall, 73 of Lorain died Friday, December 22, 2006 in his home following and lengthy illness.He was born April 11, 1933 in Duffy, West Virginia. He lived in Livermore, California for seven years before moving to Elyria in 1968 and then settled in Lorain in 1969.
Mr. Westfall retired in 1996 as a semi-tank truck driver for Union Carbide/Praxair in Lorain. He worked there for 25 years. He has previously worked for Sears's home delivery. While in California he was employed driving trucks.
During the Korean War he served in U. S. Air Force, earning a Korean Service Metal with one bronze star, United Nations Service Metal and a National Defense Service Metal.
Mr. Westfall was a member of East Broad Street Church of Christ, Elyria. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 571, Lorain, a life member of the North American Hunting Club, National Rifle Association and the Beaver Creek Gun and Reel Club, Lorain. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, friends and his beloved Silky Terrier "Ginger". He also enjoyed hunting, fishing for Walleye on his boat and fishing for Salmon in Michigan and New York, playing his guitar and reading westerns.
Among the survivors are his wife of 25 years Nancy L. Westfall (nee Brumbaugh); son Bruce A. Westfall of Tracy, California; daughters Ruth and Diane Westfall and Patricia Green all of Lorain; step-daughters Robin Smith and Nora Luck both of Lorain; brothers Jennings Lacoe Westfall of French Creek, West Virginia and Louis Williston Westfall of Ireland, West Virginia; sisters Louise Williston, of Ireland, West Virginia, Madaline Heffner of Jane Lew, West Virginia and Leta Gray Gregory of Buchannan, West Virginia; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by he parents James K. and Edith G. (nee Cooper) Westfall; brothers Richard Allen Westfall and Larry Wayne Westfall and a sister Sylvia Jean Crummit.
Friends may call Tuesday, December 26, 2006, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December, 27, 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Steve McCall, minister of East Broad Street Church of Christ, Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
